This wonderful photo was taken on a rainy train platform in Tokyo by a good friend of mine Matias Lasarte. Sharing a Pumpkin umbrella while waiting for a train on a rainy night brings out the romantic in all of us.
I went down to J Wave to do a promotion for a special Tokyo Premiere online Pumpkin Parasol campaign. I always enjoy working with J Wave and Andy Pompilio. because they are kind and a lot of fun to work with.
[:en]This is a photo from a little show we participated in from Feb 17th to Feb 19th at Omotessando Hills called “Asobi”. It was a show featuring a lot of up and coming brands. Omotessando Hills is a great place for just such a show. There was even a live painting performance on the opening evening. Great night.[:ja]これは、2月17日から19日まで表参道ヒルズで開催された「Asobi」という小さなショーに参加したときの写真です。新進気鋭のブランドを集めたショーでした。表参道ヒルズはこのようなショーにはもってこいの場所です。オープニングの夜にはライブペインティングのパフォーマンスもあった。素晴らしい夜だった。[:]
[:en]At this year’s Carnival in Venice, award-winning costume designer Tanja Shultz-Hess used the Parashell Frill as a headpiece for a jaw-dropping costume called “Umbrellina”. A Kabocha Parasol was also used in the costume. It was wonderful to see the items in Venice with such a fantastical costume.[:ja]今年のヴェネチアのカーニバルで、受賞歴のあるコスチュームデザイナー、タニヤ・シュルツ＝ヘスは、「アンブレリーナ」と呼ばれる衝撃的なコスチュームのヘッドピースにパラシェル・フリルを使用した。かぼちゃのパラソルもこの衣装に使われている。このような幻想的な衣装でベネチアのアイテムを見ることができるのは素晴らしいことだ。[:]
[:en]This year I’ve resolved to post more often. We’ll see how long that one lasts… The Sakura parasol made another appearance recently! Here’s a little photo of it at a show I recently had at the Canadian Embassy in Toyko. Look out for it this Spring!

[:en]Every year, Matsuya Ginza Department Store has Japan’s biggest umbrella show. It’s called the The “100 Umbrella Show” 松屋銀座百傘会. There’s nothing like it outside of Japan. The department store even hands hundreds of umbrellas in the air over the exhibition space in a special installation. A must see umbrella event.[:ja]銀座松屋では毎年、日本最大の傘展を開催している。その名も「松屋銀座百傘会」。このような催しは日本以外にはない。百貨店は、特別なインスタレーションで、何百本もの傘を会場の空中に浮かべる。傘のイベントは必見だ。[:]
[:en]Cocca is a really charming shop in Daikanyama that makes their own fabric for use in clothing, accessories, interior good and numerous other items. The uniqueness of the designs and the quality of the fabric makes for really great items. That’s what excited me about working with the poeple at Cocca on a series of Rhythm Pumpkin umbrellas. Here’s a shot of the items in the Cocca showroom.[:ja]Coccaは代官山にあるとても魅力的なショップで、洋服やアクセサリー、インテリアグッズなど、さまざまなアイテムに使われる生地を自分たちで作っている。デザインのユニークさと生地の質の高さが、本当に素晴らしいアイテムを生み出している。リズムパンプキン傘のシリーズをCoccaの人たちと一緒に作ることになったのも、そんな理由からだ。これがCoccaのショールームで撮影した写真だ。[:]
When I first started DiCesare Designs, we only had one parasol design (the Parashell). Then I made another (the Kabocha) Pumpkin Parasol and from that a Women’s umbrella was made (the Rhythm) Pumpkin Umbrella. Recently, we have come out with a Men’s umbrella called the GRANDE Pumpkin Umbrella. It is similar to the Rhythm in style but larger and stronger with a more robust handle. Recently TEMPS magazine did a story on it and interviewed me about the design.
