This is my favorite Parashell parasol. I didn’t like it much when it first came out, but I’ve grown to like it more and more. I thought it might be a bit too formal, but after taking pictures with Sandra, I realized it goes well with casual outfits too.
The idea of a pumpkin umbrella is incredibly cute and playful. A pumpkin parasol is a sun umbrella inspired by the shape of a pumpkin.
It’s been several years since I started designing umbrellas and parasols in Japan. Sometimes I wonder how I ended up here, but one thing is certain: it’s truly enjoyable work.
This is a photo of a Parasol parasol taken in Montreal, in front of the very colorful Palais des congrès.
These are some gesture drawings I made for the Parashell parasol. These don’t serve any technical purpose but help in fleshing out the shape of future prototype concepts.
Recently, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the kimono manufacturer Bushoan on a series of parasols. The finished products were truly wonderful.

I’ve being working on this project for more than 12 years now. It all started with a sketch I made as a student in art school. I never let go of the idea, and continued sketching. I then started making maquettes. The 3 dimensional maquettes informed he next series of drawings which then led to the initial prototyping stage.

This is a great photo of the Parashell parasol taken at Cherry Beach in Toronto. I particularly like the way Trina is holding it tilted to the left in a playful way.
